Applying
    • What are the steps to apply to the Calhoun Community College Nursing program?
      • Apply for admission to the college.
      • Send official transcripts to Admissions from ALL schools previously attended, including high school/GED transcripts.
      • Send your ACT scores to CCC Office of Admissions and Records.
  • After you have been admitted to the college and assigned an A#, log into your MyCalhoun account and verify your coursework has been properly evaluated and is showing on your unofficial Calhoun transcript.
  • Find the MyCalhoun link on the college’s homepage in the upper right corner
    • Submit an application to the nursing program.
    • Wait for admission decision letters to arrive in your A#@alabama.edu email.
Transcripts
  • Where do I submit my official transcripts?
    • Transcripts need to be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records (transcripts@593c18ac56.nxcli.net). Do not submit transcripts to the nursing department office.
  • I have attended several schools. Can I just submit transcripts from the last school I attended?
    • Transcripts must be received from ALL schools attended to meet the minimum requirements for acceptance. Any transcripts received after the suggested submission date are not guaranteed to be evaluated in time for your application evaluation.

  • When do I need to have my transcripts submitted?
    • Transcripts should be submitted 30 days before the application deadline (March 1 or August 1) to guarantee coursework will be evaluated by the application deadline (March 31 or August 31). Transcripts received after March 1/August 1 are not guaranteed to be used in your application and transcripts evaluation.
  •  I have a degree already. Which transcripts do I need to submit?
    • Transcripts must be received from ALL schools attended, including incomplete degree, graduate, and undergraduate degrees (Bachelor, Master and Doctoral).
  • There is a hold on my transcript at a previous school. Can I submit an unofficial transcript?
    • No, official transcripts must be submitted from all schools attended.
    • My name is different on my transcripts from another school. What do I need to do?
      • When you applied to the college, you should have included any aliases or alternative names. If the name on your transcript is different from any of these names listed, contact Admissions and Records for information on how to update your account to include this name.
ACT and HESI A2 Scores
  • What is the minimum ACT / HESI A2 score I must have to be eligible for the program?
      • There is no minimum score requirement for nursing applicants.
        • All applicants must submit:
            • valid ACT composite score, or
            • valid HESI A2 score less than 3 years old.
  • Where do I need to send my ACT scores?
    • Scores must be sent to the CCC Office of Admissions and Records. Do not send your scores to the Nursing Office.
  • Where can I obtain my ACT scores?
    • Please contact ACT directly at https://my.act.org/ to view and take a screenshot of your scores. If you need help with how to screenshot your computer screen, YouTube has many videos on the subject, and you may search your specific computer brand.
    • You may submit a file in your nursing application to show your ACT score.  Your submission must have the following information in plain sight:
      • Full name
      • Composite score, and
      • Date of exam.
  • Where can I take the ACT?
    • You may take the national or residual ACT. The national ACT is transferrable to other institutions, and information may be found at ACT.org.
    • The residual ACT is offered at Wallace State Community College and is transferrable to any institution other than health sciences program inside the Alabama Community College System. If you take the residual ACT, the scores will only satisfy requirements of Calhoun Community College.   • Will the TEAS or Accuplacer test take the place of the ACT/HESI A2?
    • No.
  • What happens if I have not taken the ACT or HESI A2?
    • Applicants who have not taken the ACT or HESI A2 will not be considered in the evaluation of candidates. This is a minimum requirement for all applicants.
  • Can I use my residual ACT score from another institution?
    • If the residual ACT score is from another Alabama Community College System institution, we may use the scores for nursing program application. The scores will not be used for other college purposes, such as using the score as a placement score into a course. The scores must be submitted to the Office of Admissions and Records.
  • How long does the ACT test take to be scored?
  • What is the latest I can take the ACT to guarantee the scores will be back in time for the application review?
    • We cannot guarantee scores will be back in time to be included in the application review if they are taken after February 1st or another date?? In the application year.
  • My previous college had my ACT scores. Will those scores be on my transcripts?
    • It is possible your ACT scores may be on your college transcripts, but most colleges do not include those scores on official transcripts. Check with the Office Admissions and Records to verify your scores if you have questions about whether they were transferred.
  • How can I be sure Calhoun has my ACT scores on file?
    • Check your student profile in MyCalhoun OneACCS.
  • HESI A2 Nursing Program Admission Assessment
    • Registration is completed via the Calhoun Testing Center (Register for Proctored Exams).
    • Please review your registration confirmation email for important test day instructions.
    • Candidates may test at either campus Testing Center, regardless of where they intend to attend classes.
    • Registration closes 72 hours before test The testing fee is paid upon registration using a debit or credit card. There are no refunds.
    • Candidates may take the HESI A2 one time per Nursing Program application period.
    • Candidates taking the HESI A2 for the second time, must register for the “2nd Time Tester” version.
    • Allow up to 5 hours for the testing session. Please arrive at 8:00 am and wait in the designated area(s).
    • Late arrivals will not be admitted, and no refunds will be issued.
    • Candidates may wish to dress in layers for temperature variance. Examinees will not have access to their cell phone or any other device at any time throughout the testing session.
    • The test is web-based and will be taken on a Testing Center computer.
    • For sections requiring a calculator, one will be provided in the software. No hand-held calculators are allowed per the test publisher’s requirements. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided by the Testing Center.
    • There will be one, optional, short break during the testing session; examinees may bring a light snack and should not rely on the availability of the campus vending machines.
    • The scored sections of the test fall under four broad categories:
      • Math,
      • English Language (vocabulary, reading comprehension),
      • Science (biology, anatomy & physiology),
      • Critical Thinking and Learner Profile
      • The test set will NOT include the Chemistry, Grammar, and Physics sections.
    • A printed copy of the summary of test results will be provided to each student as they complete their test session. An individual and detailed score report will be available to each student in their Evolve account, usually within 48 hours of test day.
    • The HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 6th edition study guide is available.  from the publisher’s website  or  campus bookstore. You are not required to purchase any study materials.
Core and Program Courses:
  • What do you mean by “CORE COURSES”?
    • ENG 101: English Composition I
    • MTH elective: one of the higher math courses listed below.
    • BIO 201: Anatomy & Physiology I
    • BIO 202: Anatomy & Physiology II
  •  Do I have to have all my core courses taken before I apply?
    • No, you do not have to have any of the core courses taken before applying to the program.
  • What is the minimum letter grade I must have for the courses to count towards completing the program requirements?
    • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher to apply towards your degree.
  • If I am taking a course at the same time I apply, will it count towards the application requirements?
    • No, the program cannot use courses in progress towards your application. The course must be complete with a grade on your Calhoun Community College transcript at the time of the application deadline.
  • If I have not completed all the core courses, when will I need to take the courses?
    • The program is designed to be completed in 5 semesters. Any co-requisite general education courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher during or before the semester listed in the curriculum plan.
  • If I have not taken the core courses, are there any specific requirements I need to know before applying?
    • Any nursing applicant who has not completed the core courses must be eligible to take MTH 100 Intermediate College Algebra, (ENG 101) English Composition I, and (BIO 201) Human Anatomy and Physiology I as determined by college policy.
  • How do I know if my transcript has been processed and evaluated?
    • Log into your MyCalhoun account to view your unofficial transcript. All grades transferred from previous institutions will be found there. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make certain all relevant coursework is listed on the CCC transcript. No points will be awarded if courses and grades are not listed on the CCC transcripts.
  • Why is there a “T” in front of my grades from previous schools?
    • Grades from other schools will show as “TA,” “TB,” “TC,” etc. This signifies that the grade is a transfer course.
  • What if there is only a “T” and no grade on my transcript?
    • You will need to contact Admissions to have the proper grade assigned to the course. Grades of only “T” will not be used to calculate your GPA or provide points for your application. It is the students’ responsibility to make sure all required coursework is showing on their Calhoun unofficial transcript by the application deadline (March 31st/August 31st).
  • One of the grades on my Calhoun transcript is wrong. What do I need to do?
    • Contact the Office of Admissions and Records to have the grade corrected.
GPA
  • What is the grade point average (GPA) requirement?
    • Applicants must have a minimal GPA of 2.5 based on the core nursing courses (BIO 201, BIO 202, MTH 100, and ENG 101). Additionally, applicants must have a 2.0 GPA at the last institution attended, or current native institution.
  • How is my GPA calculated if I have not taken any or all of the core courses?
    • If you have not taken all the core courses, your GPA will be calculated based on those you have taken, whether one, two, or three of the courses. If you have not taken any of the courses, your GPA will be based on that of your high school transcript.
Eligibility Criteria and Program Requirements
  • Are there any physical requirements for the program?
    • All applicants must read and signify their understanding of the Alabama Community College System Nursing Eligibility Criteria found here.
Campus Choice

A random selection (lottery) system will be used to determine the students for enrollment on the Huntsville campus for admission and reinstatement, based on the following process:

  1. Apply for admission to the nursing program
  2. Select Huntsville campus as your first choice.
  3. After the ranking by points and selection for admission, eligible students who selected “Huntsville” will be put in a lottery and chosen at random for a seat on the Huntsville campus, until all seats are filled.
  4. Notification of your campus location will be in the acceptance letter sent to A#@ email address
  5. A student needing reinstatement may return to either campus, regardless of where they were first admitted, using a lottery to fill available seats.
  6. All admission criteria still apply.
