Paramedics (NRPs) provide the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care. Paramedics record and interpret EKG findings, treat cardiac arrest with defibrillation, reduce shock by intravenous fluid administration, provide ventilation and airway protection through endotracheal intubation and administer pharmacological therapies.
Students may choose to earn either a Long Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paramedic. Once pre-requisite courses have been completed, the program is three consecutive semesters in length. A new daytime class of paramedic students begins once a year, summer semester.
A goal of the CCC Emergency Medical Services Program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
The Paramedic program at Calhoun Community College meets the state education requirements for Paramedic certification in the state of Alabama.
